The trick is that headshots rarely need to be big: they are viewed as a thumbnail in a grid, then opened at somewhere between 600 and 1500 pixels on the long edge. The upload ceilings are generous anyway — Casting Networks takes images up to 30MB with a 360x360 minimum, Backstage's Media Locker takes images up to 100MB, and a company team page will happily render a 200KB file. What actually goes wrong is the opposite: people upload a 24-megapixel camera JPEG that the platform then re-compresses badly, and the delivered photo looks softer than the file they started with.
